Where do we find new music?

In today’s generation, there are many ways and many places that people can find music. With social media being a big part of people’s everyday living, it’s possible that we could find music on social media. Like for instance, a person could be strolling down twitter and come across a new song that was just released or they could be on Instagram and someone post a new song and then that person starts listening to the song.

There are also a million different music apps that people download and use to get the latest music. You have apps such as Apple music, spinrilla, spotify, sound-cloud, YouTube, etc. Just these apps alone gives millions of people access to music on a daily basis. If someone doesn’t want to pay for music on apple music then they could download sound-cloud where they have access to the same music for free.

Music could be found any and every where. People just have to be looking in the right places to find the music that they are looking for. I prefer finding my music on apple music and sound-cloud. That’s just my preference.

Lil Nas “Old Town Road” removed from country top 100

There was a lot of controversy when the country artist Lil Nas song “Old town road” was removed from country top 100 billboards. It was said that billboards felt that his song wasn’t country enough to be on the hot country billboards. They released a statement saying, “the song does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.” Since the song was removed, the billboards have received a lot of backlash for this.

Rolling Stone reporter Elias Leight believes that its been extremely hard for Black artist to make it as an country artist than has been for white artist. Even Billy Ray Cyrus had something to say about it. He said, “I thought, it’s honest, humble, and has an infectious hook, and a banjo. What the hell more do ya need?” Billy Ray even decided to collaborate with Lil Nas and remake the song. Since then the song has jumped back on charts at #50 and continues to rise.

It’s truly amazing to see how artist are treated just because they don’t fit a genre.

Nipsey Hussle

Ermias Joseph Asghedom also known as Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed outside his clothing store in LA. Nipsey was known as an icon in the rap game but also was an icon in LA. The Marathon Clothing store were Nipsey was killed was a clothing store he opened in order to give ex-criminals a chance to have a job opportunity. Before he was killed, he was at his clothing store meeting with a friend that had just finished doing 20 years in prison. According to many articles, he was going to give his friends some new clothing and offer him a job. Nipsey was out to make a difference in the LA community. He was actually suppose to meet with the police department the next day to sit down and figure out how they could stop all the gang violence. A person that was well respected was taken away so soon. He left behind three kids and his girlfriend Lauren London. One thing people will remember what nip always said was ” The game is going to test you, never fold , what’s in you, they can’t take away”. I was able to ask a Warner student, Vernon Pickney what he thought about Nip Hussle and he responded, “I didn’t really start listening to his music until now but I knew that he was an icon”. He went on to say; “Nip Hussle was out to make a difference in the community and in the world and it’s just sad that he was killed at the age of 33”. Nipsey Hussle memorial service was held today in the Staple Center. The whole arena was filled and there was even people outside trying to get into the arena. Nip will always be remembered by everyone and his legacy will forever live through the lives that he encountered.

Review of Kodak Black Album “Dying To Live”

With his second studio album, Floridian rapper Kodak Black delivers a tale of hardship and struggle that takes in lost friends and the effects of fame. After spending about a year in a prison, this album presents 16 songs of violence, pain, and behavior socially.

In his track “Malcolm X.X.X.”, Kodak presents himself to the young generation as a way not to live. In the track he says, “Listen, do as I say, don’t do as I do”. He’s basically telling young people or people who listen to his music to do the right thing and live a good life.

The first song of the album, “Testimony”, Kodak gives you his life story and all the hardship he went through. In the end, he overcame those obstacles and claimed his glory to fame. The song is letting his fan know that they can make through anything just like he did: I’m sent, like he sent me here so I can relay these messages, Like He use me as his vessel, like He use me as an instrument.

Kodak delivers an album that is compact with pain, fear, rejoice, and storytelling. He’s able to show how versatile and raw his rap skills are.

How to improve Warner Music Selection

It’s a no brainier that the music selection at Warner events is the music that most students want to hear during a game. Most athletes want to here music that gets them hyped up and prepared mentally for a game. So the question that needs to be ask is “How can Warner improve the music selection while keeping it within the requirements of the school?”

One of the ways that the music selection can be improved is by letting players find instrumentals to songs and let the instrumental play. This is possibly the best scenario in order to keep everyone happy because the players are more hyped while warming up and administration will also be happy because there isn’t any profanity being played.

Schoolboy Q

Hip-Hop artist has finally released a new project after taking 3 years off after his last project he had done. The last time Schoolboy Q released an album, Fat Joe and Remy Ma had a hit song. His fans have acquired this rare trait called patience, aware that given Q’s consistent output, the hiatus will lead to music that won’t disappoint. On “Numb Numb Juice,” Schoolboy Q rewards that patience from the jump, spitting before the beat even hits with a line that signals his grand return: “Two-door coupe, hoppin’ out like Jack-in-the-box.” “Numb Numb Juice” is Q letting off warning shots, he’s got some new tricks in his bag and the old ones from his long-gone bucket hat days still hit too, so keep up or get left in the dust of TDE’s oddball.

Warner Music Selection

Throughout the years here at Warner University, the music selection during sporting events hasn’t always been the best music played to get players hyped before the game. It’s obvious that this is a Christian school and Mrs. Dunlap doesn’t want explicit language in songs but there are also different alternatives to solve the problem.

While conducting an interview with two student (William Bethel and Kyree Marshall) both of these students were able to give me their perspective and thoughts on Warner’s music selection. William Bethel stated, “I understand that this is a Christian school and they don’t allow certain music but at the same time you can play music without explicit language. He went on by saying, “Warner doesn’t allow teams to even play the instrumentals to songs but claim that they want students to have fun and support each other in events.”

The response that was given to me wasn’t very surprising because a lot of students on this campus feel the same way. When asking Kyree about his thoughts on the music selection he went on to say this, “The music that is being played during sporting events doesn’t really get people pumped up for games and nobody really listen to the songs being played.”

In the end there has to be a median that sport teams and Mrs. Dunlap can come to so that everyone gets what they want without overstepping boundaries. But it is very clear that the music selection during sporting events is unpleasing to the students who attend or participate in these events.

Grammy’s

February 10, 2019 marked the 61st year of the Grammy Awards. Millions of people tuned in to watch the awards show this day. I wanted to get another person’s perspective on the show so I interviewed my mom.

When asking what did she enjoy about the award show, she replied, “Alicia Keys performance really stood out to me. The way that she transitioned from new school music to old school music really impressed me a lot.” She continued by saying, “There were some artists that shouldn’t have won awards but that always happens during award shows.”
