Lil Nas “Old Town Road” removed from country top 100

There was a lot of controversy when the country artist Lil Nas song “Old town road” was removed from country top 100 billboards. It was said that billboards felt that his song wasn’t country enough to be on the hot country billboards. They released a statement saying, “the song does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.” Since the song was removed, the billboards have received a lot of backlash for this.

Rolling Stone reporter Elias Leight believes that its been extremely hard for Black artist to make it as an country artist than has been for white artist. Even Billy Ray Cyrus had something to say about it. He said, “I thought, it’s honest, humble, and has an infectious hook, and a banjo. What the hell more do ya need?” Billy Ray even decided to collaborate with Lil Nas and remake the song. Since then the song has jumped back on charts at #50 and continues to rise.

It’s truly amazing to see how artist are treated just because they don’t fit a genre.
